Liverpool Anglican Cathedral

Cathedral Church of Christ in Liverpool

1904-78

Giles Gilbert Scott, Architect (1880-1960)
Competition Assessors: George Bodley & Norman Shaw
Entries from architects such as Charles Rennie Mackintosh

Giles Gilbert Scott submitted designs in the architecture competition for the proposed Liverpool Cathedral while still a pupil (22 years old). They were accepted in 1903 - ironically Giles was a Roman Catholic; G. F. Bodley became Scott's architectural partner on the building.
After the death of Bodley in 1907, Giles Gilbert Scott redesigned Liverpool Cathedral, creating a revered Gothic structure.

Largest Anglican cathedral in the world, the construction over many years is
reminiscent - though not as severe as Gaudi's Sagrada Familia in Barcelona

Consecrated in 1924, it was completed in 1978.
